About Pine Creek First Nation

Minegoziibe Anishinabe, formerly Pine Creek First Nation, is an Anishinabe Treaty 4 Nation on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipegosis in Manitoba.

Minegoziibe Anishinabe, formerly known as Pine Creek First Nation, is an Anishinabe Nation in Manitoba. Its main reserve, Pine Creek 66A, covers about 8,112 hectares on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipegosis, between Camperville and Duck Bay. The Nation is part of Treaty 4 and a member of the West Region Tribal Council. Its founding members were of Saulteaux descent and came from the Lake Superior area near Sault Ste. Marie.

The Nation's mission is "To inspire and revitalize our Mino-bimadiziwin to reclaim our Anishinabe way of life," guided by the principle *Kina-Kego-Naabasin* (everything connects). The main language spoken in the community is Saulteaux, also known as Nakawēmowin (ᓇᐦᑲᐌᒧᐎᓐ). Members rely on the lands around Duck Mountain for hunting, trapping, fishing, gathering berries and medicines, and growing gardens, as well as for prayers, ceremonies and offerings.

Community life is supported by local facilities and programs, including:

  • A health centre, a youth centre and a family resource centre
  • Minegoziibe Anishinabe School
  • A pre-employment support program
  • Minegoziibe Minor Hockey Association

The Minegoziibe Anishinabe Economic Development Corporation develops business ideas and incorporates band-owned businesses, guided by the teachings of respect, honesty and truth, wisdom, courage, generosity, love and humility. Learn more on the official website.
